Next, you'll drill holes to accommodate the handle as shown in the plans.

On the center line of the end pieces, make a mark 1-5/8" down from the top of the curve. Using a 1-1/4" paddle bit or forstner bit, drill a hole in each end piece at the appropriate spot. You may wish to place a scrap of stock behind the hole as it is being drilled to avoid tearout when the bit cuts through the back side of the stock.

At this point, it would also be advisable to cut the plywood bottom to size. Using your circular saw or table Saw, cut the 1/2" plywood to 11-1/8" wide x 23-1/8" long. This will allow for 1/8" movement in the plywood bottom.

Cut your dowel to a length of 24-1/4", and using your band saw, cut a 1" deep notch through the ends of the dowel. These grooves will accommodate a wedge to hold the dowel in place. The grooves should be parallel to one another for aesthetics.

Sand all pieces thoroughly to prepare for assembly. It will be much easier to sand the pieces now rather than later.
