Making the Curved Cut on the Front

With all of the pieces cut to length, we'll turn our attention to the curved bottom of the front piece that will outline the opening at the bottom of the unit, where you'll pull out the bags.

Measure from the long edge of the beveled end of the front piece down the board to 29-3/4" and place a mark. Make a square line at the mark across the width of the 1x8.

Measure in 1-1/2" from each end of the line and place a mark.

Next, adjust your compass to a 1-1/2" radius. Place the anchor point on one of the two marks you just placed on the line, and scribe an 1/4 arc from the edge of the board toward the top of the board. Repeat on the opposite mark.

With the two circles scribed, connect the tops of the two circles with a straight pencil line (at the quadrant points on the top, or side closest to the beveled edge on the opposite side of the board). See page 2 of the free woodworking plans you downloaded in step 1.

Using your band saw or jigsaw, cut out the 1/4 arcs and line connecting the two arcs, again as shown on page 2 of the free woodworking plans.
