As mentioned in step 14 of these free bird feeder plans, you may wish to hang the bird feeder rather than mount it using a shelf or L-bracket. Hanging the bird feeder will typically keep the feeder from being accessible to squirrels, raccoons and other four-legged critters. See the picture above for an example of how to hang the feeder using eye-hooks and a chain (as described in step 14).
