We'll continue the assembly by attaching the shelves to the shelf supports/standards. Position one shelf on top of the bottom support, aligning the front of the shelf with the front of the standard, and tack in place with some nails. Put at least three nails straight down into the support, and toe-nail (at an angle) a couple of nails through the shelf into the vertical standard (being certain not to blow the nail through the outside edge of the standard).
Tip: Use one of the 13" tall dividers to hold up the opposite side of the shelf while nailing into the support.
Attach the opposite side of the shelf to the bottom support on the other standard in the same manner. Then, repeat the entire process, installing the other five shelves.
If you intend to use a plywood back for strength, now would be the ideal time to install it. Check the entire assembly for square by measuring from the top of one standard to the bottom of the other standard and note the distance. Measure the opposite diagonal, and if the two dimensions match, the assembly is square. If one diagonal measurement is longer than the other, adjust the entire unit until both measurements match.
Once the unit is square, cut one piece of backer plywood the width of the entire unit (73" in length in our case), and position it against the back of the unit one long edge on the floor, matching the standards with the ends of the backer plywood. Nail the plywood into the standards and the bottom three shelves. Cut a second piece of plywood backer and position it above the first piece and nail into the standards and shelves before moving the entire unit into its final position.
