The first step in this woodworking project is to cut the pieces of stock. Using your miter saw or circular saw, cut the following lengths:
  • 2 pieces at 16-1/2" long
  • 2 pieces at 13-1/2"
  • 1 piece at 18" long
  • 1 piece at 12" long

Next, with your table Saw, rip the 16-1/2" pieces into a total 12 slats, 1/2" wide. Also, rip the 12" piece into four strut pieces, which should each be 3/4" wide.

Sand the pieces thoroughly, as sanding will be much more difficult after assembly.

Next, set up your stacked dado set in your table Saw or radial arm saw to 1/2" width. Set the depth of cut to 3/16". On one of the four 12" pieces, measure in 1/4" from one end of the stock and make a dado cut. Measure over 1/2" and cut another dado. Proceed until twelve dadoes have been cut, as shown in the free woodworking plans. Cut a second 12" piece in the same manner to match the first one.
