The Bottom Line

The Gator Micro-Zip Multi-Purpose Sanding Tool is a great addition to the Gator Zip line of hand sanding tools. Like the Gator Zip Sanding Tool reviewed earlier on this site, the Micro-Zip features an ergonomic hand grip, hook-and-loop fasteners for attaching sandpaper, and a variety of sanding grits included. The Micro-Zip is great for sanding into tight places, as the rectangular sanding surface measures just 1" wide by 3-1/2" long.

This inexpensive set would be a great addition to nearly any woodworking shop, particularly those that require quite a bit of detail sanding.

Pros

  • Ergonomic, comfortable grip for easy detail sanding
  • Quick-change hook-and-loop fasteners for attaching sandpaper
  • Small size allows for easy access to tight spots

Cons

  • Included sandpaper is about 1 millimeter too narrow on each edge of sander

Description

  • Includes ten pieces each of 80, 120 and 220 grit sandpaper.
  • Foam grip handle is contoured with indents on the sides for fingers and thumb, for a better grip.
  • Can be used for more than just fine woodworking projects, too. Great for sanding drywall, arts and crafts or even body work.

Guide Review - Gator Micro-Zip Multi-Purpose Sanding Tool

The Gator Micro-Zip Multi-Purpose Sanding Tool is a rather impressive little hand sander. It feels great in the hands, and one can easily apply as much pressure as needed to handle any detail sanding task. the foam handle is strong, but not too stiff, and has indents on each side and on the top for a good grip and added pressure to the sanding surface.

The only drawback that I found with the Micro-Zip was that the sandpaper pieces that accompany the unit were all just slightly smaller in width and length than the hook-and-loop fastener on the handle. This means that to really get the sandpaper into tight corners, I had to apply the sandpaper a bit offset from center. A minor inconvenience, but one that seemed a bit unfinished, in my opinion.

That minor blemish aside, I'd still like to have one in my tool chest for when I need to do some detail sanding on my fine woodworking projects.
