The Bottom Line
With the Dremel 4000 Rotary Tool, the line of Dremel rotary tools is beginning to feel less like a "craft" or hobbyist tool, and more like a professional power tool. The documentation is excellent, and there are a plethora of accessories available, but what I really liked about the Dremel 4000 rotary tool is that they've separated the variable speed control from the on/off switch. This allows one to keep a preferred speed setting for every use, as opposed to previous models that required one to adjust the speed with every use. A nice improvement over previous models.
Pros
- Separate on/off and variable speed controls
- A wide variety of accessories available
- Includes sanding/grinding guide attachment, cutting guide and 31 other accessories
- Covered by a 5-year limited warranty
Cons
- Collet seems reluctant to release accessory shanks when changing attachments
- Rotary sanding drums didn't hold up well in testing
