Featherboard

By Chris Baylor, About.com

Featherboard
Definition: A featherboard is used on a table saw or router table to hold smaller pieces of stock against the blade or bit to insure a clean cut. A featherboard is typically made from a piece of 1x6 or 3/4" plywood, with a beveled end and fingers of about 3" in length and 1/8" to 1/4" in width cut into the beveled end. It is then clamped into place on the table or fence and holds the material as it is run past the cutting head.
