Most table saws and radial-arm saws (when set up for ripping) have a riving knife that helps to keep the wood from pinching back together after it passes through the blade. This pinching can not only cause a dangerous kickback, but it also can cause saw blade burns on the face of the boards. These burn marks can be an unsightly problem that you'll have to deal with before finishing your project.
Sure, you can try to sand away these ugly marks, but doesn't it make more sense to avoid getting them in the first place? Learn how to prevent the problem in Getting Rid of Saw Blade Burns.
