Hand woodworking tools (such as planes, chisels and gouges used on a lathe) need to be sharpened regularly to keep them cutting cleanly and properly. Not only does a sharp tool cut better, but it is much safer to operate, as less effort is needed to guide the tool through the wood. On the other hand, a dull edge will need to be forced through the wood, and the wood will have a tendency to tear instead of being cut cleanly.
There really isn't a lot of effort required to Keep Your Woodworking Tools Sharp. By spending a few extra minutes honing your tools, you'll work faster, safer and the results will be more impressive.
