A Subtle Reminder?
Sunday June 14, 2009
Occasionally, "life" tends to remind us of things we know we should do, often in not-so-subtle ways.
This afternoon, I had an experience that reminded me of the importance of safety glasses. I was ripping some knotty pine on my table saw, and a knot came loose and smacked me rather smartly in the upper cheek, about an inch from my left eye. Of course, I was wearing my safety glasses, so it really didn't do any damage (other than a nice little stinging sensation and a minor abrasion). However, it was a stark reminder that woodworking, particularly with power tools, can be dangerous.
Developing safety habits that will help protect you, such as the wearing of safety glasses, properly fitting (and appropriate) clothing, and hearing protection when needed is simply being smart. You'll never regret wearing safety equipment if you ever need it, but you'll surely regret NOT having worn it if you ever need it.
