Review of the SawStop Contractor Saw

Thursday November 6, 2008
By now, a considerable number of woodworkers are familiar with SawStop's revolutionary safety technology: a blade brake that can stop the blade of their table saw when the woodworker accidentally comes in contact with the blade, so quickly that it can considerably minimize or even prevent a major accident. SawStop demonstrates this feature by trying to cut a hot dog in half using their table saw. If you've not seen the video, check out the amazing footage on their home page at www.sawstop.com.

Until now, this safety feature was only available on their cabinet saws. To accommodate woodworkers who needed to work remotely, SawStop recently released their new model CNS175 Contractor Saw, which is a more mobile saw with the same blade brake technology.

However, no safety technology would really mean much if the tool itself couldn't hold it's own (at the very least) against competing products. In an effort to gauge just how well this table saw performs, I put the unit to the test. Learn how the SawStop Contractor Saw measures up in this woodworking tool review.
