How to Square-up Stock

A number of woodworking plans require square or rectangular-shaped pieces of stock of various lengths for parts such as table legs. No matter whether the piece is cut from a larger piece of stock or a glue-up of thinner pieces, how should a woodworker go about making sure that the piece has four square edges?

Well, there are a few techniques that can be employed to trim the stock to make it square, but the method chosen will depend on the tools at hand and the desired result.
