Your Inner Voice

Everyone has an inner voice, a kind of guide that, whether we know it or not, seems to get us out of a lot of messes when we might be headed toward one. That is, if we're willing to listen and take heed.

For instance, if your inner voice is telling you, "Maybe you shouldn't route this edge or make this cut without putting on your safety glasses," I would advise you to listen. I know from my own past experiences that my inner voice is a whole lot smarter than I am.

Conversely, it's not a good idea to rely only on your inner voice. You should also be educated in the proper rules for safe woodworking. For instance, always read, understand and follow the safety precautions that are covered in complete detail in the operator's manuals that accompany your power tools. Another rule is to always keep your hands safely away from any bit or blade. And always, always wear your safety equipment.
