A Bicycle Made Entirely From Wood?

Thursday January 24, 2008
I came across a pretty interesting article, and had to pass it along. It seems that 16-year-old Marco Facciola needed to complete woodworking project as part of his school curriculum. He chose to build a full-size, fully-functional bicycle out of nothing more than wood and glue. There's not a single piece of metal or rubber in the entire project, including the wheels, chain, sprocket, pedals and seat.

This is a pretty amazing project. I found the detailed pictures of the sprocket and chain mechanism to be quite interesting. Thanks to the Lee Valley & Veritas newsletter for bringing it to our attention.

Wanna build your own wooden bicycle or similarly unusual woodworking project? Maybe this story will pique your imagination!
