How to Make Perfect Half-Blind Dovetails

Tuesday January 22, 2008
Half-blind dovetails are a bit more difficult to perfect than standard through dovetails. They are also very attractive and perfectly used on drawers where the face board of the drawer doubles as the front side of the drawer box. The half-blind dovetail gives the advantages of being quite strong, but doesn't show through the face of the drawer.

If you have projects to build that require half-blind dovetails, then the ability to create these dovetails is a feature you should look for when you buy a dovetail jig. Many dovetail systems offer this capability, while others do not.

All of the following dovetail jigs offer the versatility of being able to create both half-blind and through dovetails (listed alphabetically):

AKEDAŽ DC16 Dovetail Jig

Leigh D1600 Dovetail Jig

Porter-Cable 4212 Dovetail Jig
