How Many Tasks Can You Accomplish With Your Drill Press?

Monday January 14, 2008
Nearly every woodworking project requires holes of one sort or another. To drill these holes, you probably have a couple of cordless drills and a corded power drill. Do you really need to find space in your shop for a drill press?

Ask any woodworker who has ever sprained a wrist with a power drill because a spade bit caught in a piece of wood while drilling a hole, and I'll bet they'll be able to tell you the value of a drill press. Not only can a drill press can make fast work out drilling large or small diameter holes, but it can do it much more safely and precisely than any hand held power drill ever could.

On top of that, your drill press can be used for far more than just punching basic holes. You can use your drill press to drill offset holes, act as a spindle sander, or even double as a mortiser. Want to learn more? Discover what features you should ask for when purchasing a drill press, plus find some other very helpful tips for using your new woodworking machine.
