A Wooden Volkswagen Beetle?

Monday July 21, 2008
Well, sort of.

A friend sent a page to me this morning from a Brazilian newspaper website that contains pics and a story about a couple in Bosnia who put a wooden skin over a classic VW Beetle convertible. Don't worry - you don't need to brush up on your Portuguese to get the point. The pics tell the entire story.

Seems that they covered this car with over 20,000 handmade small oak pieces which were glued to the car's body and then finished with varnish. Check out the wooden beetle pics or a YouTube video interview with the owner.

Build a Simple Sanding Table

Sunday July 20, 2008
Sanding can be a nasty, dirty job, even when connecting a dust collector to your sander. There are ways to combat the dust, though. Using a sanding table one way to combat the dust.

Sanding tables tend to be large, stationary accessories that require quite a bit of floor space. What do you do if you have a small shop, and don't have the room for a big sanding table?

Phil Huber, the online editor of ShopNotes has a great idea. Check out his simple 24" x 18" table-top sanding table made with a piece pegboard. A simple, yet pretty smart concept.
